In my work „Phantomschmerzen,“ I engage with the therapy of Emma. Emma is a guitarist who has been suffering from focal dystonia for three years. This neurological condition leads to uncontrollable muscle contractions, preventing Emma from pursuing her passion— playing the guitar. Focal dystonia, also known as musician‘s dystonia, occurs exclusively in musicians. It is believed to arise from excessive training of highly complex and fine motor movements in the hand, which leads to growths in the corresponding motor cortex areas, resulting in the uncontrollable muscle contractions.
